A Desert Jeep Tour at the Dead Sea.

The biggest advantage of jeep tours is the fact that you can get to places that a regular car is unable to reach.  On this desert trip, we visit sites that tell the story of the development of humanity in the desert, such as collecting water, grazing the sheep and developing the roads.  We will also see where the nuns’ movement flourished after Christianity was accepted as the legitimate religion in the Roman Empire.

The three monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) were born in the desert – this is important to know and to remember.  The Judean Desert served as a barrier between the desert dwellers in the east and the populated country whilst the inhabitants of the Judean Desert constituted a sort of shield and border to the tribes of the desert who wanted to invade.

The desert served as a hiding place for those fleeing from the law and those who were fed up with the ‘City life’ (David from Saul, the Essenes).  Plants and animals also developed special methods to survive in the desert (lack of water, high heat, strong radiation).

The Dead Sea is a lake that can receive water from natural sources but the levels drop only by mankind’s interference or evaporation.  In recent years, the level of the Dead Sea has dropped by more than one metre per year.
